Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains in jeopardy
Dropping attendance and poor weather could end the two-year event.
According to the Pocono Record, the Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains race is in jeopardy after two years in existence.
Plagued by poor weather, after its 2000 participant debut in 2011, the number of participants dropped to 1450 this year.
Due to the race not living up to expectations, the World Triathlon Corporation ended its relationship with Philadelphia Triathlons LLC, the company that runs the local event.
Currently, it is not known whether the race, won by Canada’s Tenille Hoogland this year, will continue as an Ironman 70.3 branded event or independently.
