Inaugural Elite Sprint Worlds

Lausanne to host Team Worlds too.

On August 21st, Lausanne, Switzerland will host the first ever ITU Elite Sprint Triathlon World Championship. The Elites will swim 750 m, bike 20 km, and run 5 km, as battle it out over a $50 000 prize purse.

On the following day (August 22), the ITU Triathlon Team World Championship will take place. Teams, comprised of two men and two women (racing in the order of female-male-female-male) will each finish their swim (275 m), bike (6 km), and run (1.5 km) segment, then tag the next athlete in the relay for the exchange. At the 2009 Team Championships, held at the Hy-Vee event in Des Moines, Iowa, Team Switzerland took top spot followed by Australia, and Canada.

These two events replace the Lausanne ITU Triathlon World Cup event, previously scheduled for the same weekend.
