Great White North Triathlon Preview

Half Iron race this Sunday in Stony Plain, Alberta.

Always the first Sunday in July, the Great White North Triathlon is a 1/2 Iron Triathlon, that offers $15 000 in prize money, and 25 Ironman Canada qualifying spots. Last year, Penticton’s Tom Evans (3:49:09) and Calgary’s Rosemarie Gerspacher (4:24:52) were the winners. They will not return to defend their titles. Who will it be this year? Tanya Salomon – third last year, Kyle Marcotte  – second last year, Calvin Zaryski – fourth last year, or Olympian Paul Tichelaar. We will have the results as soon as they are available.

Of interest is the Great White North’s drafting policy and enforcement. If competitors are caught for drafting once they will have to do a 2 Km “Lap of Shame” run, a second offense means an immediate disqualification.
