Clermont ITU Sprint Triathlon Pan American Cup

Silver medals for Christin and Edwards.

Canada’s Marc-Antoine Christin and Gabrielle Edwards both earned silver medals at today’s ITU Junior North American Triathlon Championships in Clermont, Florida.

Mexico’s Octavio Oliveros outran Quebec’s Christin (53:43) during the 5km run (15:26) by 10 seconds to take the win in 53:36, while the USA’s Tony Smoragiewicz ran a blistering 14:51 to get the final podium position (54:14). Victoria’s Connor Foreman placed 12th (56:24).

The Junior Women’s race followed the same basic pattern, with Mexico’s Adriana Barraza posting a faster 5 km run (17:45) to take the win (1:00:23) over Saskatchewan’s Edwards (1:00:37), and the USA’s Tanelle Berard in third (1:00:57). Ontario’s Dominika Jamnicky got sixth (1:01:55), and Alberta’s Madi Serpico placed 15th (1:07:53).

In the Clermont ITU Sprint Triathlon Pan American Cup Elite races, Great Britain’s Helen Jenkins took the Elite Women’s win (55:05) with a 750 m swim of 8:12, a 29:38 – 20 km ride, and a dominating 5 km run of 15:40. She was well ahead of Americans Sarah Haskins (55:52), and Gwen Jorgensen (55:57). Canada’s Kristina Schultz finished 22nd (1:01:24).

France’s Grégory Rouault (50:28) edged out the USA’s Jarrod Shoemaker (50:31) for the win. He swam 7:41, biked 27:41, and ran 13:47. American Kaleb VanOrt picked up third place (50:34). Calgary’s Jordan Bryden was the top Canadian male in 43rd position (53:24).
