Potter and Yee take Esport Triathlon World Championship titles

They didn’t win the finale, but thanks to consistent racing in all three Super League Arena Games events, Great Britain’s Beth Potter and Alex Yee were crowned the Esport Triathlon world champions on Saturday.

Hungary’s Zsanett Bragmayer and New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde won the final event of the three-race series, but both Potter and Yee would finish second to snag the world championship titles.

The racing featured three short triathlon races that included a 200 m open water swim, a 4 km bike using the Zwift platform, followed by a 1 km self-powered curved treadmill run (also using Zwift). The second of the three races saw the events go in reverse order.

Potter took the first of the three stages in the final, but Bragmayer would take the second stage and then outrun Potter to take the final stage and the event win over Potter and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

Potter took the overall title thanks to a win in Munich and a runner-up finish in London.

Wilde takes the win

Wilde took the first of the three stages, with Germany’s Justus Nieschlag winning the second leg by just a second in a swim sprint finish. On the third stage Wilde dominated the bike leg, hitting the treadmill for the final run with a 15-second lead.

“I came here to race the best that I could, and I’ve been rewarded for my performances here and in London. My swim has been a massive project for me this winter and I’ve worked meticulously on it, so I’m really pleased that it paid off,” said Yee.
