Wahoo releases new Elemnt Bolt bike computer

After four years Wahoo has revamped its popular bike computer – the latest iteration of the Elemnt Bolt features a colour display, more memory and Smart Navigation.

Originally launched in 2017, the most striking change in the new Elemnt Bolt is the 2.2-inch 64-colour, high-contrast screen made of scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass. The updated user interface allows you to customize and colour-highlight different fields, making it easier to focus on specific metrics. The ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the backlight so you’ll always be able to see the screen.  Triathletes will appreciate the low-profile, sleek design that remains from the original Bolt, too, along with the waterproof body that will handle rainy conditions.

Like the Elemnt Roam, the Bolt now includes Smart Navigation which will automatically reroute you if you stray from a planned route, allows you to change destinations on the fly or reroute back to your starting point and also retrace a ride from the unit – you don’t have to access the app on the phone to change your plans. The new Bolt has more memory, too – 16 GB, so there are literally millions of miles of roads and trails pre-loaded to the unit. Quick view LEDs on the top of the screen provide turn-by-turn directions and also let you know when Strava Live Segments are coming up. The unit runs for 15 hours, which will easily get you through a few days of training or one extremely long effort.

As with all Wahoo devices, set up is a breeze using the Wahoo Elemnt app and once the unit is set up it’s easy to customize data screens, uploate routes and analyze data. The App will easily upload your workouts to TrainingPeaks, Strava and other training logs. The Bolt will also work with your Elemnt Rival watch in handover mode during the bike leg of a race, and can also control your Kickr trainer for indoor sessions, too. Workout metrics include speed, distance, heart rate/ calories, time, cadence, climbing and power through Bluetooh and Ant+ connectivity, and you can even connect through your phone to be able to track calls, texts, WhatsApp, email and Live Track.

The Wahoo Elemnt Bolt will retail for US$280 and is available today at Wahoo dealers or at Wahoofitness.com. Stay tuned for a more detailed review of the new Elemnt Bolt.
