Canadian talent to take on superstar field at Ironman 70.3 North American Pro Championship

On Saturday May 2, Ironman’s regional championship series will take place in St. George, Utah. The tough bike and run courses have been slightly modified for 2015 but cover varied terrain with stunning views. But all eyes are sure to be on the competition featuring some of the biggest names in the sport including reigning Ironman World Champions Mirinda Carfrae and Sebastian Kienle.

In the women’s race Canadians Melanie McQuaid, Magali Tisseyre and Heather Wurtele will take on the likes of Jodie Swallow, the 70. 3 world champ silver medallist , Meredith Kessler who won in St. George in 2013, and multiple Ironman and 70.3 winners Mary Beth Ellis, Rachel Joyce and Heather Jackson.

On the men’s side, 2013 winner and runner up in 2014 Brent McMahon will be sure to push Sebastian Kienle, Andreas Realert, the 2014 Kona bronze medallist Ben Hoffman, as well as Luke McKenzie and Tim Don. Canadians Trevor Wurtele, and former ITU athletes Taylor Reid and Jon Bird will also be on the line bringing top speed to front.

In addition to the $100, 000 ten-deep prize purse for these pros, is an automatic entry for the winner to the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See-Kaprun, SalzburgerLand, Austria on August 30.

There will also be almost 3,000 age-group athletes racing for 30 coveted age-group qualifying slots to the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
