For the first-time, Maui will host its own qualifier for the Xterra Worlds in October. The qualifier will take place at the Xterra Adventure Fes in Kapalua, Maui, on August 9. The race consists of a 800m swim, 16 km mountain bike and 5km run at Kapalua Resort on many of the same trails that are used during the Xterra World Championships. In addition to the off-road triathlon, there will be a 5km and 10km trail run and Keiki 1km and 2km runs.

The local organizers explain, “Maui has been voted the number one island in the world now for 18 years straight by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine, so why not have this brand new event here on the best island in the world.”

The Xterra Adventure Fest is aiming to offer something for everyone, from extreme adult athletes, to casual runners, and even kids. Qualifying spots for the Xterra World Championship Race will be awarded to top finishers of the triathlon event.

The Xterra World Championship race will be held on October 26 in Maui. It is the last in a series of nearly 100 off-road triathlon events held in 16 countries and 30+ US States. The concept is to provide a bona-fide off-road world championship for amateur and pro athletes. For pros there is US$105,000 in prize money at stake. Amateurs race for the title of Xterra World Champion within their designated age group.
