Athlete race status updates

Sweetland is out for ITU Mooloolaba. McCormack and Snowsill are likely to join her on the sidelines.

Via twitter, Victoria’s Kirsten Sweetland announced that she will not race at ITU Mooloolaba, while Australia’s Chris McCormack may not race due to the flu. Defending Olympic champion, Emma Snowsill, is also ill and will likely not compete in Mooloolaba and possibly the World Triathlon Series opener in Sydney. This puts her in serious jeopardy of not making the Australian Olympic team and being in London to defend her Olympic title.

American Chris Lieto confirmed that he would not race Ironman 70.3 Texas, ending hopes of a biking showdown with Lance Armstrong.

Check out the tweets below:

Kirsten Sweetland

Unfortunately will not be racing this weekend due to foot injury. Heading down to watch & soak up the atmosphere that I love so much anyway!

Chris McCormack

Timing sucks! Will make a decision after a sleep. May not start today. Still weak and congested from this flu! #Gutted

Chris Lieto

Sad I am not racing @IronmanTri texas. Tough decision to not attempt to defend my National title
