New Half Distance Challenge Series Race in Sacramento
Challenge Family announces the newest race in its series to take place in Sacramento County, California on October 5, 2014. The Challenge Rancho Cordova will be the organization’s first half distance race in the US. “Our city features a mecca of recreational opportunities and places to stay making it the perfect location for this event.”said Mayor Dan Skoglund.
The race starts with a 1.2 mile swim at the Nimbus Dam (fed by waters high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains). The Challenge Family assures that the water is “calm and flat in all weather conditions.”
Athletes will be able to view the Sierra Nevada Mountains as they ride through farmland and vineyards on the single-loop 56 mile bike with a net gain of 1200 feet. The 13.1 mile flat run course on city streets and trails starts and finishes in downtown Rancho Cordova. “Our events aim to honour the spirit, values and legacy of our sport and we are excited to finally have an event in California, the home-state of triathlon,” added Challenge Family CEO, Felix Walchshöfer.
General entries for the inaugural Challenge Rancho Cordova on 5 October 2014 will open at 09:00 PST on Friday, January 25.
