The top-ranked triathlete Gwen Jorgensen confirmed that she will be competing at Tri Liverpool, host of the British Triathlon Championships, on the 10th August as a warm up for the ITU Grand Final in Edmonton. Jorgensen is looking forward to the event: “I’ve heard that it’s a beautiful city and that the event has a really fast and exciting course. It comes at a great time in my training cycle and I’m really looking forward to racing hard and taking the momentum into the ITU World Triathlon Series race in Edmonton later on in August.”

Tri Liverpool is organized by British Triathlon in partnership with Liverpool City Council, and will boast a strong elite field, with last year’s winner Brendan Sexton and current U23 Triathlon European Champion, Gordon Benson lining up in the women’s and men’s races respectively.

Assistant Mayor, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “We’re delighted that an athlete of Gwen Jorgensen’s profile has chosen to race at Tri Liverpool. Liverpool is a city with a growing reputation for staging major international events and I am sure that Gwen’s participation will create real excitement in the city.”

Based in the heart of the Liverpool Docks, Tri Liverpool will see over 2,000 triathletes swim in the Wapping Docks, ride past the iconic Liver Buildings and run along the Albert Docks before collecting their medal outside the Echo Arena.
