ITU Headquarters Leaving Vancouver

ITU Logo

Effective today, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) headquarters moves from Vancouver to Lausanne, Switzerland. The ITU is the world governing body for the Olympic sport of Triathlon and all related MultiSport disciplines including Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon and Winter Triathlon. Vancouver has been the ITU home base since its inception in 1989 and the headquarters has certainly been essential to the booming triathlon culture of that city. The Lausanne office opened in 2012.

ITU president Marisol Casado explains the move: “Vancouver has played an important role in the history…[b]ut with the International Olympic Committee and a vast majority of International Federations and organizations located in Lausanne, we believe the best choice for the future of triathlon was to make Lausanne the headquarters.”

An outpost was opened in Madrid following Casado’s election as the ITU President. Both the Vancouver and Madrid offices will remain open. The decision to change the headquarters was voted on and passed by the ITU Executive Board. The move does not effect ITU events taking place in Canada and the US in the near future including this year’s WTS Grand Finals in Edmonton and the 2015 finals in Chicago.
