Rose City Triathlon preview
The Rose City triathlon weekend offers a fast course for all those participating.
This weekend the Multisport Canada race series begins in Welland, Ontario. Hosted at the Welland International Flatwater Centre, the Rose City triathlon weekend offers a fast course for all those participating.
The long course triathlon goes Saturday, which includes swim/bike, bike/run and relay options. The long course distance covers a 2km swim, a 56km bike and a 15km run. This distance is great for triathletes looking to build their form for a half or full Ironman later in summer. With the calm waters and flat course, it is a great place to train and post a fast time. The long course at Welland is the first of the Long Course Ontario series. The series includes races in Welland, Ironman 70.3 Muskoka in Huntsville, K-Town Triathlon in Kingston and the Niagara Falls Barrelman in Welland/Niagara.
On Sunday, it is the sprint distance triathlon and duathlon, as well as the give-it-a-tri race. Like the long course race, there are swim/bike, bike/run and relay options for both the sprint and give-it-a-tri races.
Swimming in the rowing basin is a fantastic experience. Many triathletes compare it to swimming in a massive pool. The basin has cables at the bottom allowing triathletes can follow the cables, without having to sight as much.
The area of Welland is relatively flat, making for a speedy course. There are sections of the ride where the triathletes hit a headwind, but the course is sure to post some fast times.
The run this year will be on the paths around the basin. Depending on your race, you will be going a looped course or a simple out and back.
Multisport Canada’s next race will be in Gravenhurst, the July 14th/15th weekend. Follow the link for more Multisport Canada events this summer.
