Last month we reported on a couple of events slated to take place in Alberta this month. One of those, the Chinook Classic, ended up being cancelled, leaving the Tri for Evan event organized by Be There Races as the province’s lone triathlon in 2020. (Ironman 70.3 Calgary had been rescheduled to September, but it, too, has been cancelled.)

“Our Tri for Evan sprint race went off without a hitch on Saturday,” race director Cheryl Lowery said. “People were so happy to do a ‘live’ event and we were thrilled to be able to give it to them. With all the bad news stories around triathlon these days, this was a little ray of sunshine. It was the first (and will be the only) triathlon in Alberta this season.”

The event saw just 85 athletes take part in the triathlon, duathlon, relay and kids events. Leading the way across the line were two U20 athletes – Diego Romero and Alysa Makila.
