At Ironman Texas 2019, all the controversy from 2018 seemed to be a none issue. The weekend did, however, produce some exciting racing.

In the women’s race, Ryf led the women’s field out of the water, with Jeanni Seymour (RSA) and Jocelyn McCauley (USA) close behind her. On the bike, Ryf could not separate herself from the rest of the field and appeared to have some problems early in the run. She recovered and passed McCauley with 12K to go in the marathon and took her first Ironman Texas title (8:37:48). McCauley held onto an impressive second-place finish (8:39:40) and Seymour ran herself onto the podium (8:50:03) in her Ironman debut.

In the men’s race, Andrew Starykowicz (USA) used his strength on the bike to take a commanding nine-minute lead on second-place, Patrik Nilsson (SWE). The Swede, a superb runner, overtook Straykowicz in the first half of the run and ended up running a 2:42:21 marathon to take the win (7:50:55). David Plese of Slovenia finished second (8:01:50) and Straykowicz held onto third (8:03:53).
