After Tornado warnings and terrible weather postponed Saturday’s Americas Triathlon Cup Sarasota-Bradenton, the events were shortened for Sunday’s races. The junior race was turned into a duathlon (run-bike-run) while the elites competed in a super-sprint – 350 m swim, 12 km bike and a 2.5 km run. Four Quebec athletes led the way for Canada today in Sarasota.

Legault takes another silver

In the elite field, Emy Legault maintained her early season silver medal performances with her third silver of 2022. Legault crossed the line behind pre-race favourite Kristen Kasper of the USA. Olympian Rachel Klammer of the Netherlands was third.  Dominika Jamnicky and Kira Gupta Baltazar both finished in the top-10. Race finishes and times are below – you can see full results here.

On the men’s side, after missing a year with heart problems, South African born Richard Murray won a close race.  The super sprint format saw many men coming out of the water side by side. Quebec’s Charles Paquet was fourth overall, with USA Olympic silver medalist Kevin McDowell in second and Britain’s Daniel Dixon in third. Canadian’s Martin Sobey and Jeremy Briand were also in top-ten on the elite men’s side.

The junior racing turned the triathlon into a shortened duathlon.  The class of the day in the women’s field was Quebec’s Noemie Beaulieu, who took the victory by nearly twenty seconds over American Naomi Ruff and Faith Dasso. Canada’s Maira Carreau and Abby Lewis rounded out top ten in the junior women’s race. On the men’s side,  American Luke Anthony battled Canada’s Mathis Beaulieu to the line with Mexico’s Miguel Ángel Medina in third. Canada also had Nathan Grodin in fifth and Ontario’s Sage Sulentic in eighth place over all.
