It was a great start to the 2022 season for Jessica Tuomela and her guide Emma Skaug (pictured above) as they took silver at the World Triathlon Para Series Yokohama race. Leanne Taylor also took silver in the women’s wheelchair event.

The race included a 750 m swim, a 20 km bike and a 5 km run and the athletes had to deal with heavy rain throughout the race. Tuomela and Skaug finished in 1:10:38 behind Spain’s Susana Rodriguez (1:05:30).

“I am really happy with today’s race. It was tough conditions out there for everyone,” said Tuomela, who teamed up with Skaug following her fifth-place finish at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. “Emma and I raced hard and worked well together. It was a huge learning race for us since this is only the second time that we have raced together. She is incredibly strong on the bike and that is so exciting! I can’t wait to see what we can do in the upcoming season.”

Taylor also had to deal with heavy rain through her race. She finished in 1:13:26 behind Magret Ijdema (NED), who finished in 1:11:33.
