Ironman 70.3 Oceanside postponed to October

Company says the decision is "not indicative of changes to any other Ironman events at this time"

The Ironman 70.3 Oceanside triathlon, typically the big season opening triathlon event in the United States, has been moved from March and will now take place on Oct. 30.

In a release sent out today, Ironman noted that “After evaluating of the status of the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting restrictions in place, and access to certain portions of the course currently prohibited, we regret to announce that the Ironman 70.3 Oceanside triathlon cannot take place in March and have determined it will be better positioned to return on Oct. 30, 2021. Our team will continue to work hard developing and refining operational plans in a manner consistent with local community objectives and within the guidelines and recommendations set by public health entities as it relates to COVID-19.”

Ironman also noted that the move “is not indicative of changes to any other Ironman events at this time as each event is evaluated on its own unique set of circumstances.”

The new date is now just a week after the new Ironman California race set to take place in Sacramento on October 24. Athletes entered in the race have been offered the opportunity to have their entry transferred to the Oceanside event in October, defer to next year’s race on April 2, 2022, or transfer to another 70.3 event in 2021 including Lubbock, Ohio, Atlantic City, Michigan, Augusta, Muncie, Arizona, Indian Wells-La Quinta or Waco.
