Just because it’s September, doesn’t mean you have to pack it in for the winter. Use your summer fitness and extend your season with these multisport races across Canada.
In Ontario, the last long course race of the season is Barrelman Niagara Falls. The half-Ironman distance triathlon is a fast-flat course that takes you from the Welland International Flatwater Centre to the edge of Niagara Falls.
Quebec has a few multisport races running until the end of September. Their fall season kicks off this weekend with Montreal Esprit (second weekend of September). Like Barrelman, the course in Montreal is super flat and a great way to end your season with a PB.
In Alberta, the last triathlon of the season is also this weekend. The Eastlink Triathlon takes place in Grande Prairie. The weekend of racing offers both a sprint and Olympic distance tri. It also includes a try-a-tri and Kids of Steel.
The BC triathlon season finishes with the Cultus Lake Triathlon. Cultus Lake serves as the BC Championships but it’s also a great venue for your first triathlon. Located in the Fraser Valley and just 90-minutes from Vancouver, the race takes place at the foot of the mountains. The race weekend includes a sprint, Olympic and half-Ironman distance triathlon. There’s also a half-Ironman aquabike option.
Fall is a great time to dabble in some trail running or adventure racing. It’s something different and gives yourself a mental break from the repeated trainer sessions.
