Europeans top the list of age group champions crowned at Ironman World Championship Nice
Europeans won seven of the 11 age group categories at this year's worlds in Nice

Europeans ruled the roost at this version of the Ironman World Championship as seven of the 11 age group champions crowned came from this side of the Atlantic. There were three American champions crowned – all in the 60+ age categories.

Lea Riccoboni, the winner of the women’s 30-34 category, was the day’s fastest age group athlete, in 9:54:07. Her splits were 55:54/ 5:40:46/ 3:11:27. She grew up in Bourg d’Oisans, near Alpe d’Huez, so it’s hardly a surprise that she would excel on the hilly course in Nice. Riccoboni moved to South America in 2018 and now lives in Chile.
