Despite crashing twice Tamara Jewett takes second at 70.3 Aix-en-Provence

Another 73-minute run split helps Canadian to runner-up finish in France

Canadian Tamara Jewett’s (pictured above at last year’s 70.3 world championship) great season continued this weekend with another podium performance at Ironman 70.3 Aix-en-Provence, despite two crashes on the bike that left her well back starting the run.

Jewett was out of the water just six seconds behind swim leader Kate Curran, among a group that included race favourites Emilie Moirier, Emma Pallant-Browne and Barbara Riveros. Morier, Pallant-Browne and Jewett managed to separate themselves from the rest of the pack, but Jewett crashed in the wet conditions and was forced to chase back up to the two leaders. Another crash put her well behind, though, and she would end up finishing the bike in fifth, 5:49 behind Morier and four minutes behind Pallant-Browne.

A 1:13:29 run split moved Jewett up to second by the finish line (4:18:20) as Pallant-Browne’s 1:16:51 run split was enough to move her to first as she crossed the line in 4:17:30. Moirier hung on for third in 4:26:03.

France’s Dylan Mangnien won the men’s race (3:50:59) thanks to a blazing 1:07:33 run split, finishing just 29 seconds ahead of Bart Aernouts (3:51:28) and over two minutes up on Bradley Weiss (3:53:22).
