Canadians off to Denmark for Worlds
The 2018 ITU World Multisport Championships in Fyn

The 2018 ITU World Multisport Championships begins in Fyn, Denmark, with the opening ceremonies on July 5th. Last year, the ITU decided to put all the multisport events (not the traditional triathlon) together in one festival. All of the races being held together creates a lively atmosphere and feeling of togetherness in the multisport community. The first edition of this festival was last year, in Penticton, BC.

The multisport events included in the 2018 ITU World Multisport Championships are:
- Sprint Duathlon WC (5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run)
- Standard Duathlon WC (10km run, 40km bike, 5km run)
- Cross Triathlon WC (1km swim, 27km off-road mountain bike, 10km trail run)
- Aquathlon WC (1km swim, 5km run)
- Aquabike WC (3km swim, 120km bike)
- Long course WC (3km swim, 121.5km bike, 30.7km run)
Opening Ceremonies – July 5th
Standard Duathlon – July 6th
Sprint Duathlon – July 8th
Cross Triathlon – July 10th
Aquathlon – July 12th
Aquabike and Long Course Triathlon – July 14th
The team
This year, despite the distance from Canada, over 225 age group multisport athletes will be competing in Denmark. The youngest athletes on the team are Noah Cornish and Victor Marchand. Both will be competing in the sprint duathlon, in the 16-19 male age group. The most mature athletes competing in Denmark, are three 75-79 age group athletes. Woddy Paylor is competing in the standard duathlon, Maureen Teixeira in the sprint duathlon, and Bob Hubbard in both the aquabike and sprint duathlon.
Just over a 100 Canadians competing Denmark, will be racing in the duathlon (sprint or standard). While only eight Canadians will be competing in the aquathlon.
Among the Canadian contingent are a few elite racers, including Jesse Bauer, Melissa Paauwe and Stefan Daniel in the duathlon, Frank Sobara in the long course triathlon and Karsten Madsen in the cross triathlon. Also, two junior elite athletes are racing, Tate Haugan in the cross triathlon and Jackson Konkin in the aquabike.
