American triathlon star Morgan Pearson kicked off his 2025 season with a ridiculously fast half-marathon in Houston on Sunday, running 1:01:01 to take 15th overall in a deep field of pure runners. The result was several seconds faster than Pearson’s previous PB of 1:01:08, which he ran in October in Valencia, Spain.

Pearson is a two-time Olympic medallist in triathlon after securing a back-to-back silver medals with Team USA in the mixed relay in Tokyo and Paris. He has his eyes on the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games, but as he said in an Instagram post before his race in Houston (a post in which he announced a new partnership with Hoka), he plans to spend the next three years progressing not only in triathlon, but also in running.

He has quite the resume in running already, as his 1:01:08 result in Valencia late last year shot him into the top 20 all time among Americans in the half-marathon. His run on Sunday showed that he not only belongs on that elite list of runners, but that he could climb even higher.

Amazingly, Pearson wasn’t overly pleased with his 1:01:01 run. He took to Instagram after the race, writing that it was a “medium result” and adding that he was “hoping for a bit more.”

He went on to write that he plans to compete in a cycling race in Colorado in a few weeks, followed by the first World Triathlon Championship Series event of 2025 in Abu Dhabi, which is set for February 15 and 16.

With the triathlon season on the horizon, Pearson may not be back in action in a half-marathon anytime soon, but it will certainly be exciting to see what he can do whenever he does toe the line of another running race.
