Alistair Brownlee is cooking up a new project around nutrition. Though he is one of the most decorated triathletes in history, he is looking to the average person for answers.
His latest engagement is collecting research from ordinary triathletes through his Instagram platform. Through a series of questions he is crowd sourcing research to inform a nutrition project currently in development. For now the details of the project are only food for thought. He isn’t sharing any insider info about his latest retirement gig. He wants to hear from you first.
Brownlee is asking triathletes three questions around nutrition. Using his Instagram stories he asks, “How important do you feel the right kind of nutrition is during racing and competition? How comfortable do you feel regarding keeping your body at the right nutrient level during training and competition? How frequently do you change your nutrition routine?”

Getting up close with age groupers
Triathletes don’t get the opportunity to catch Brownlee out on a shared race course as often since announcing his retirement at the end of last year. But as he took a step back from racing, he took a step forward engaging more with the everyday athlete.
While the project continues to bake in lab, Brownlee keeps his engagement schedule busy collaborating and training with age group athletes. He and his brother, Johnny Brownlee, are at the National Running Show to further engage with the public and lead a fitness run session later this month. The Brownlee brothers are leveraging the race event weekend to connect with runners and take them through an interval workout. The National Running Show is a weekend of festivities in Birmingham, January 25-26.
Brownlee is the only two-time Olympic gold medalist in the individual triathlon. He also holds four World Champion titles, four European Champion titles, and is a Commonwealth Games Champion. He won his first championship in 2009 and first Olympic gold medal in 2012. He retired late last year, going down in history as one of the greatest male triathletes of all times.
