XTERRA West Championships return to Lake Las Vegas
Saturday April 14th for the fourth year in a row.
The XTERRA West Championship triathlon and accompanying off-road sports festival returns to Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada for the fourth straight year on April 14-15.
More than 1,000 competitors from across the country will gather at the Aston MonteLago Village Resort to take part in the various races. The main event, an off-road triathlon comprised of a one-mile swim in Lake Las Vegas, an 18-mile mountain bike and a 6.2-mile trail, awards $15,000 in prize money and attracts some of the world’s best athletes.
As the first of four regional championships in the nationwide XTERRA America Tour that features 70 races in 39 states, the West Championship awards 46 qualifying slots into the XTERRA World Championship to the top amateur finishers in each age group.
In addition to the main event a half-distance off-road triathlon dubbed the “XTERRA Sprint race”, and 5km, 10km, and 21km trail runs will be offered. The best Paul Mitchell stylists in Nevada will be onsite giving haircuts in exchange for a $15 donation to the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
“There could be no better place to kick off the season than at Lake Las Vegas,” said David Nicholas, the managing director of the XTERRA World Tour.
“Whether you gamble or not, Nevada is one fascinating place. The lights, the shows, the restaurants are absolutely world class, and hosting an XTERRA race at a first class resort just minutes from the Strip and the airport is a whole lot of fun.”
The course itself is nothing short of spectacular as it dishes out a virtual moonscape with the various shades of red, sand, and grey in the southern Nevada desert.
Josiah Middaugh and Melanie McQuaid won the pro divisions at last year’s race and both will return to defend their title.

9:00am – XTERRA West Championship (1.5k swim, 30k mtb, 10k run)

8pm – After party at the Casino Montelago
Sunday, April 15
8:00am – XTERRA Lake Las Vegas 21K
8:05am – XTERRA Lake Las Vegas 10K
8:10am – XTERRA Lake Las Vegas 5K
