XTERRA: The Gift of Adventure

Earlier this year a study by San Francisco State University suggested that “those who spend money to do things are happier than those who spend their money on possessions.”

Indeed the thought that life experiences are more valuable than “things” is a concept near and dear to the hearts of XTERRA Warriors around the world.

“As an old guy I can testify that the things I’ve been able to do, people I’ve met, and places I’ve been to because of XTERRA have been more valuable to me than any possession I’ve ever owned,” said XTERRA managing director “Kahuna Dave” Nicholas.

While Nicholas is the undisputed leader of long-distance travel with XTERRA, one only needs to venture outside of their hometown to discover new trails and new people to grasp the idea of “Live More.”

In 2013, such XTERRA adventure opportunities abound in the U.S. and around the world.

It all starts with the iconic XTERRA South Africa Championship race in the Western Cape on Feb. 24.  Can you imagine how cool it would be to have a cocktail with some elephants on a safari before-or-after the race…”except you always have to watch out for the water buffalo, they’ll just run you over,” smiled Nicholas.

If warm weather, clear blue water, and perfect training conditions in friendly, exotic locations appeal to you then March is your month.

Four races in four weeks on three incredible islands with XTERRA Philippines (March 2), Saipan (March 9), and Guam (March 24) in succession and lots of fun to be had in-between with the lively-spirited pros and amateurs who make the trek each year.

There are also early season races in Motatapu and Rotorua in New Zealand, and the beautiful beachside community of Anglesea in Australia.  When summer hits, Europe gets hot with big races in eight countries.  Other sure fire great experiences are up-for-grabs in Brazil, Mexico, and Japan next year.

In the U.S. alone XTERRA has nearly 70 races on tap, and at least one man – Brent Bieshaar of Colorado – plans on doing an XTERRA race every weekend from March through August.  We’ll hear all about his experiences as the year draws near.

This December, as the season of giving gets into full swing, remember that sometimes the best present is the gift of adventure … which can be found at an XTERRA near (or far) from you.
