Results from Friday racing and watch the mixed relay live here

The elite races at WTS Edmonton on Friday did not disappoint.

In the women’s race, it was Great Britain’s Vicky Holland who took the win. Ashleigh Gentle (AUS) followed in second and it would be Georgia Taylor-Brown in third (GBR). Holland would come out of the water with a large lead group before things came back together on the bike. It would then be a 5K sprint for the finish line. This is where Holland pulled away with a 16:41 run split. Joanna Brown would be the top Canadian in 23rd.

In the men’s race, it would be in the final 400m where Mario Mola (ESP) pulled away from Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) to take the win. Then it would be Jacob Birtwhistle (AUS) finishing in third. Birtwhistle would comeback from sixth in the final kilometre passing Vincent Luis (FRA), Fernando Alarza (ESP) and Jonathon Brownlee (GBR) to get on to the podium. Matthew Sharpe would be the top Canadian in 17th.

Canada’s Stefan Daniel would be victorious in the PTS5 division of the ITU World Paratriathlon on Friday. Friday’s race would be a first for Jessica Tuomela and guide Lauren Babineau, winning their first World paratriathlon race this weekend. Kamylle Frenette would come second in the PTS5 women’s division. Jon Dunkerley and guide Sean Young came third.
