Wellington suffers a bike crash

Will still race at the Ironman World Championships.

Three time Ironman World Champion, Chrissie Wellington, was out on a training ride this past weekend and crashed her bike while making a high-speed turn.

After much speculation on her status, Wellington confirmed today via twitter that she will be on the start line at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on Saturday October 8th.

“The body is capable of amazing things. I WILL be on the start line. Thanks to all who contacted me: your words truly are healing wounds.”

“Long story short: Front flat tyre, cornered, came off, nothing broken, very battered, bruised and bloody. But still full of fight.”

And true to her positive nature, it appears that she is in good spirits and ready to capture her fourth Kona title.

“Life throws you curve balls. The key is to bounce those balls right back. ”

“And plus, at least my skin matches the colour of my race kit.”
