Warriner and Alexander win Racine 70.3

Dehaan, Fisher, and Marcine are Canadian standouts

Australia’s Craig Alexander once again used a stunning run split (1:15:19) to take a come from behind win today in Racine, Wisconsin. New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner (4:17:42) put together a 2:21:25 bike and 1:25:39 run combination that turned out to be just enough to stay ahead of Australia’s Kate Major (4:17:55). Sarnia’s Chandra Dehaan was ninth among all women, and placed second in the women’s 25-29 category. Kenora’s Edie Fisher won the women’s 50-54 age group, and Lana Marcine was third among women 60-64.

Lieto and Carfrae win Vineman 70.3

Sandquist wins age group, McQuaid 4th, Naeth 5th

The USA’s Chris Lieto crushed the field with a 2:08:53 bike split, and added a 1:16:44 run (just 12 seconds off of the top run split) to win his Ironman 70.3 Vineman 70.3 title in a time of 3:54:05, 6:18 ahead of New Zealand’s Kieran Doe. One of the best runners in the sport, Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae threw down the top run split of the day (1:16:52) to move from fifth to top spot on the podium (4:15:51), ahead of Great Britain’s Leanda Cave (4:22:03). XTERRA Legend Melanie McQuaid of Victoria, B.C., finished fourth (4:27:02), and Prince George’s Angela Naeth was fifth (4:27:17).

Jason Sandquist of Duncan, B.C., came out of the water in eleventh (28:29), biked into second (2:24:28) and ran his way into first (1:23:24) to win the men’s 40-44 age group (4:20:52).
