Vine second in the PIC Double

Gardner and Bucher Win.

Sam Gardner (UK) and Renata Bucher (SUI) won the Pacific Islands Club Double award after racing at the Tagaman road triathlon in Saipan.

The PIC Double goes to the man and woman with the fastest combined time in the XTERRA Saipan Championship and the Tagaman road triathlon on week later.

Gardner won the Tagaman (2k swim, 60k bike, 15k run) in 2:59:23, and his combined time in the two races was 5:33:26, just sixty four seconds back was Victoria’s Mike Vine. Vine finished second to Gardner in both events.

Bucher finished third at Tagaman behind Shonny Vanlandingham (USA) and winner Dan Bi Hong of Korea. However, Bucher’s 8:55 margin of victory at XTERRA Saipan virtually assured her of the PIC Double, since Vanlandingham was only able to chip away 43 seconds from that lead.

With their wins, Gardner and Bucher earned airline tickets back to the islands and a week-long stay at the lush PIC Resort.  Check out more about both events saipansports.com.
