Canadian pro Heather Wurtele heads into the 2013 Ironman World Championship as one of the favourites in the deepest women’s field in recent history. Wurtele had her best-ever season in 2013, including victories at Panama 70.3, Rev 3 Quassy and Ironman Couer d’Alene, where she demolished Julie Dibens’ course record en route to the win. As Melanie McQuaid, who chose Wurtele as her pre-race pick for the win in Kona, said Wurtele is “not just a sentimental favourite. I think she is a legitimate threat.”
Triathlon Magazine Canada‘s editor-in-chief Kevin Mckinnon caught up with Wurtele in Kona for her thoughts on her biggest race of the year.
