TriStar111 Minnesota Results

Twelsiek and Wilcox win the inaugural race.

Maik Twelsiek (GER) won in the inaugural U.S. TriStar111 in Maple Grove, Minnesota and beat the 111 record (3:12:45) established by Thomas Hellriegel in Estonia (3:12:53). Karl Bordine (USA) placed second and Devon Palmer (USA) third. In the women’s field Jenny Wilcox (USA) took first before Julie Hull (USA) and Jennifer Martone (USA).

The 111 triathlon race over unique distances was well received for the first time in the U.S. market with his innovative and easy recovery distances.

“”It was a perfect day for me even if Macca had to stop, It was a fast race and I pushed hard on the bike. It is a perfect format for me to prepare Kona without hearting my body. I hope there will be more TriStar races next year in the USA because a lot of athletes should be interested on this distances and high level quality event set up and services.” Says Maik Twelsiek, former Ironman Lake Placid and Wisconsin champion.

“I had to stop because I had a mechanic problem so I went into a sprint wave with amateurs to be part of this fun day. It was great being here and to see the TriStar logo appearing in the US, it is a big achievement for the brand and I am sure that there will be more races next year because the athletes here will love that format and race organization based on good quality services and set up. I will be here next year to take the race record to Maik,” said Chris “Macca” MacCormack, 2x Ironman World Champion and TriStar Ambassador.

TriStar Minnesota has met all expectations when the fast-growing European brand was launched for the first time in USA with its innovative and easy recovery distances.

“We said that we will have a race in the US territory in 2011 and we really wanted to present the format to this market. The distances are different with a focus on the bike and directly places the brand differently in regard to other long time existing format events. Triathlon is a swim, bike and run sport and needs innovations to stay dynamic and attractive for athletes and new customers. There is a big community of cyclists who will love to enter triathlon with adapted format to them. Our distances are part of ITU regulations and we worked very well with USAT to have all the regulations done in the right way,” says Olivier Castelli, COO of Star Events.

TriStar Minnesota was part of the Maple Grove Triathlon: Dare to TRI triathlon who hosts Sprint and Olympic distances during the same day. Over 1,000 athletes took part in this great atmosphere and fun focused day in Minnesota with exclusive set up and services for TriStar athletes.
