Tragic Death for ITU Athlete

Rising Ecuadorian triathlon star, Maria Cristina Farez, was tragically killed during a training ride on her bike on the morning of Sunday, May 24th in a collision with a vehicle.

At just 20 years old, Farez was one of Equador’s most promising young triathletes, coming into the sport with a strong background in swimming and placing second in her professional debut at the 2014 Mendoza PATCO Triathlon Pan-American Cup. Her upcoming race schedule would have brought her to Mexico for the ITU Huatulco World Cup in June and to Toronto for the Pan-American Games in July.

The triathlon community has suffered a great loss with her passing. We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this young triathlete.
