Tomas Rodriguez Targets 2026 Return to Competition Following Doping Suspension

Ironman

Tomas Rodriguez Hernandez’s recent Instagram posts suggest he is planning a return to competition in 2026, following the conclusion of a two-year period of ineligibility for an anti-doping rule violation. Rodriguez was sanctioned after testing positive for clomiphene, a hormone and metabolic modulator listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List.

The positive test stemmed from in-competition testing at the April 2024 Ironman Texas, where Rodriguez crossed the finish line first and initially appeared to have secured a breakthrough victory on one of Ironman’s most competitive stages. That result was later disqualified following confirmation of the adverse analytical finding. Under the terms of the sanction, Rodriguez accepted a two-year ban running from June 6, 2024, to June 5, 2026, with his results from the event annulled.

As a result, the Ironman Texas title was retrospectively awarded to Patrick Lange, who had finished second on the day. Lange later described the reassigned victory as “bittersweet,” noting that while the win counted officially, it came without the podium moment.

Recent Updates

Rodriguez has recently taken to social media, sharing posts that appear to document his training and preparation ahead of a potential return to racing. While he has not confirmed specific events or a detailed timeline beyond the end of his ineligibility, the posts signal an intention to resume competition once eligible, renewing discussion within the professional triathlon community about how his return may be received.
