Tisseyre wins Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains

Aernouts wins the men's race.

Pre-race favourites Magali Tisseyre of Canada and Bart Aernouts of Belgium took wins today at the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains.

Due to hazardous river conditions the swim segment was cancelled and the race became a Bike/Run Duathlon.

Tisseyre rode 2:30:38 (just eight seconds off the fastest bike of the day) and ran the fastest women’s half marathon of 1:24:59 to earn a comfy 3:57:11 victory over Americans Jessie Donavan (4:02:46), and Jennifer Tetrick (4:04:11).

“So much emotion coming down that finishing stretch,” said Tisseyre on Twitter. “Such great people in this town. A race organized with a lot of heart.”

Aernouts, a winner two weeks ago at Ironman 70.3 Syracuse, dominated both segments with a 2:11:27 ride, and a 1:14:25 run to cross the line in 3:27:04. American Zach Ruble took second (3:34:33) and Germany’s Fabian Conrad finished third (3:35:35).

Finishing second in their respective age categories were Gatineau’s Louis Therien (Men 25-29 — 3:47:18) and Hamilton’s Deborah Fowler (Women 50-54 — 5:00:53).
