The Triathlon Community mourns Jerry Friesen

Kevin Mackinnon remembers.

Jerry Friesen, a popular race director for the Suburu Niagara Running Series and the Suburu Triathlon Series, died Wednesday morning after collapsing during a run.

He leaves behind his wife Jody and three children, Lindsay, Rachel and Brett.

It’s unclear how he died, but he collapsed shortly after he left for his run, just around the corner from the house. By the time emergency officials arrived, it was too late to save him, Jody Friesen said.

“There might have been an electrical failure in his heart, but we don’t know what happened,” she said.

Friesen was also the organizer of the Cruise to Run event in Barbados. A tribute has been posted on the Suburu Niagara Running Series website.

Niagara This Week has this obituary, remembering the man who played a major role in Ontario’s running and triathlon communities.
