Earlier this week famed surfer Laird Hamilton launched his own multisport race series for 2015. The series, Force of Nature is an optical course series consisting of six events, each featuring 20 obstacles over distances between 12.8 and 16 km. The first race in the series kicks off in Southern California on April 26, followed by events in Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, the Tri-State area (Englishtown, New Jersey), and Northern California.

Hamilton is partnering with MESP, Inc., which puts on the popular Nautica Malibu Triathlon. The extreme obstacles will feature challenges such as crawling through snow under cargo nets and running over 30 feet of jagged rock barefoot.

According to their website the series aims to “challenge the complete athlete.” Organizers insist, “Nothing about the courses is easy—and the hardest challenges might be those that ask you to look deep inside and tap into your ability to have your mind and body work.”
