The brand that invented shorter format triathlon for spectator appeal is expanding. Supertri, formerly known as Super League, has created a new league of racing they call By Supertri.

The race format is focused on short course mass participation to attract first-timers, relay participants and seasoned age groupers. The company’s mission is to “inspire the competitor in everyone” by bringing the masses to events offering entry-level distances and group participation.

Supertri acquires new races

In developing the new race brand, Supertri has acquired the Ascension Seton CapTex Triathlon and Kerrvill Triathlon in Texas. Other mass participation triathlons such as Chicago Triathlon, Long Beach Legacy Triathlon and Toulouse Triathlon will now operate under By Supertri.

“By Supertri marks the next phase of our rebrand and represents a big step in our evolution to a triathlon community,” said Supertri CEO Michael D’Hulst. “We are shaping the future of triathlon by linking professional racing with mass participation.

“Through By Supertri, we cater to experienced athletes who want to go fast while also inspiring first-time participants to become lifelong competitors. They are motivated by the race experience and being part of the Supertri community that inspires and connects them.”

Taking it to the urban streets

By bringing together popular urban events like CapTex, which is held in downtown Austin, under the Supertri banner, the company hopes to transform the sport.

“We are dedicated to enhancing the race experience, making it unforgettable and highly attractive and drawing more people to triathlon,” added D’Hulst.

The intent is also to preserve the local feel of these community events, which D’Hulst commits to doing. The brand promises to retain the legacy and traditions of the local mass participation events in Chicago, Long Beach, Texas and Toulouse.

Its newly acquired CapTex triathlon will be renamed the Ascension Seton Austin CapTex. The race venue offers a dynamic race experience through the city’s vibrant streets and Lady Bird Lake. The Kerrville Triathlon is known for its scenic course in the picturesque Texas Hill Country.

The Ascension Seton Austing CapTex Triathlon will be held May 26, 2025, followed by the Long Beach Triathlon on July 20. The Chicago Triathlon will go ahead on the weekend of August 23-24. The Kerrville Triathlon will be a fall weekend event from September 27 to 28, with the Toulouse Triathlon concluding the year’s race schedule on October 5.

“We will deliver world-class event experiences as an expert global operator but respect that these are local events and embed that into all we do. This is we expand the sport and elevate it to the next level,” said D’Hulst.

Race calendar for 2025 released

By Supertri intends to deliver the biggest series of urban short course triathlon participation events in the world. It is focused on being inclusive, offering race formats accessible to newcomers and seasoned athletes alike.

Its original vision of providing a high-octane race series to attract more viewers to the sport when it was first created remains a focus. It is also the brand that brought the short format indoor triathlon, Supertri E, which blends real life and virtual racing.

It’s expansion with the By Supertri brand extends its reach to amateur athletes and those looking to test the sport for the first time.
