Spirig takes her second ITU Madrid title
Canada's Widney and Brault did not have the races they wanted.
Switzerland’s Nicola Spirig (2:06:35) won her Second ITU Madrid title (her last win was in 2010) today in a sprint finish over Ireland’s Aileen Morrison and Chile’s Barbara Riveros Diaz.
Canada’s Chantell Widney (2:13:02) and Sarah-Anne Brault (2:13:36) surrendered over 4 minutes to the leaders after the swim and bike, and finished off in 41st and 43rd place respectively.
In a fun tweet, Widney shared the following after the race. “My three year old started to cry when she heard I didn’t win the race today. So cute! And maybe a tad bit competitive?”
