Simon Whitfield & Grant Darby to officially launch Tri This
Triathlon Canada's talent and recruitment initiative on December 4.
Two-time Olympic medallist, Simon Whitfield, and four-time World Para-triathlon Championship medallist, Grant Darby, will run into a Toronto elementary school in search of Canada’s next great triathletes.
Whitfield and Darby will officially launch Tri This – Triathlon Canada’s Talent ID and recruitment initiative designed to keep Canada a major player on the international triathlete scene – on December 4 at 10:45 a.m. EST while speaking with the students at Rene Gordon Elementary Health and Wellness Academy.
A four-time Olympian, Whitfield is the most decorated and successful triathlete in Canada, and one of the most accomplished triathletes on the globe with two Olympic medals, a gold medal at the 2009 Commonwealth Games, 14 World Cup victories, 21 World Cup podium finishes, eight top-10 finishes at the World Championships, and 10 Canadian Championship titles.
After losing his leg above the knee 30 years ago, Darby started triathlon 10 years ago. He has quickly developed through the Canadian system, and was twice awarded Triathlete of the Year for athletes with a disability by Triathlon Canada. A captain of Team Canada at the 2005 ITU World Triathlon Championships, Darby is looking to win the nation’s first Paralympic triathlon medal when the sport makes its Games debut in 2016.
