Setting up Ironman South Africa

Tissink is back to defend, sort of.

On Sunday, April 22, Raynard Tissink will return to defend his Ironman South Africa title on home soil in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Tissink, has raced in all seven editions of Ironman South Africa and confessed that he is not racing for the podium this time around.

“Racing socially this year, just to be a part of it,” said Tissink on his Facebook page. We will have to wait and see if he’s playing possum.

Either way he will have to contend with Germany’s Andi Boecherer, Switzerland’s Mike Aigroz, and fellow South African James Cunnama.

Look for Jodie Swallow (UK) and Spain’s Virginia Berasategui to lead the way in the women’s race. Ironman legend Natascha Badmann (SUI) is also in the field.
