Challenge Sir Bani Yas paired its island setting with two standout performances by Jonas Schomburg and Katrine Græsbøll Christensen.

The opening moments reflected the uniqueness of the event, with the cruise ship anchoring the swim venue in the background, offering a brief but striking backdrop before attention shifted fully to the racing.

Men’s Race

On the men’s side, Jonas Schomburg delivered a decisive win, racing from the front and establishing separation that never came under serious threat. He crossed the line in 3:13:52 to claim the victory and 12,000 USD in prize money on his 32nd birthday.

Behind Schomburg, the podium fight tightened late in the race. Pierre Le Corre moved through the field, running past Pieter Heemeryck, Josh Ferris, and Max Stapley after the 10km mark to secure second place in 3:18:03, earning 8,000 USD. Josh Ferris held on for third in 3:18:30 and collected 4,000 USD.

“Just really enjoyed it from start to finish, even coming here, completely different race vibe,” Schomburg said at the finish line. “On the race course there’s no gifts, no presents!” he said half-jokingly, referring to racing on his birthday. “So I went hard on the first lap on the bike, tried to drop them… It worked out perfectly, even my run was quite nice, very controlled all the way. Really happy!”

Women’s Race

On the women’s side, while much attention was on Jolien Vermeylen in her middle-distance debut, it was Katrine Græsbøll Christensen who took the tape.

After moving to the front on the bike approximately 60km into the ride, Græsbøll Christensen created a gap that proved sufficient heading into the run. She managed the coastal laps efficiently, never allowing the chase to close, and crossed the line in 3:37:45 to claim victory and 12,000 USD in prize money.

Natalie Van Coevorden finished second in 3:41:02 to earn 8,000 USD, while Ellie Salthouse claimed third in 3:43:12 and 4,000 USD.
