Australia’s Leon Griffin and New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner earned wins today at Ironman 70.3 Shepparton, which took place approximately two hours north of Melbourne, Australia.

Griffin, 31, opened with a 24:31 swim in Kialla Lake, pedaled the two lap course with a top ride of 2:09:45, and ran the three lap half marathon course in the fastest time of 1:15:01 to finish in 3:51:27 to win by over a ten minute margin. Ollie Whistler (AUS) finished second (4:01:33), and Monty Frankish (AUS) third (4:03:13).

In the women’s race, Lisa Marangon (AUS) led the way during swim (25:20), Elly Franks took over during the bike with a dominant ride (2:23:50), but it was Warriner’s run of 1:27:52 (age grouper Jodie Barker ran faster – 1:27:11) that allowed the forty year old to clinch the win in 4:25:25. Marangon came in second (4:27:56), and Nicole Ward (AUS) secured third (4:35:22) with a 1:31:57 run.
