Results from Ironman 70.3 Mallorca

Michael Raelert and Emma-Kate Lidbury win.

Germany’s Michael Raelert and England’s Emma-Kate Lidbury earned victories today at Ironman 70.3 Mallorca.

Raelert started the day with a 24:39 swim, just four seconds off Tom Vander Hoogerstraete of Belgium. He then took full control of the race with a race best 2:13:26 bike ride, and got further away from his pursuers with a race best run of 1:14:27. Raelert crossed the line in a dominating 3:57:08, the only athlete to go sub 4 hours. Fellow German Michael Goehner came in next for second (4:10:11), and Australia’s Ben Allen moved from eighth to third on the run (4:12:51).

Lidbury also dominated in the women’s race with a wire to wire victory. She kicked things off with a 27:10 swim, then rode 2:37:03 to establish a comfortable lead, and then finished it off with a 1:28:01 half marathon to successfully defend her title in 4:39:05. Belgium’s Tine Deckers finished second (4:43:18), and Germany’s Natascha Schmitt third (4:47:11).
