Registration closed for Norseman

1300 registered for a crack to 500 spots. Lottery to take place next week.

More than 1300 athletes have signed up for a chance at 500 places on the start line of the tenth anniversary edition of the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon in Eidfjord, Norway, in August 2012.

Registration opened Sunday October 16th and closed a week later. A lottery will be held for the available places during the first week of November, with athletes notified during the weekend of November 4th.

To mark its anniversary, Norseman is adding another day of competition to race weekend-Saturday, August 4 and Sunday, August 5. Each race is limited to 250 competitors, with Sunday’s field including the elite competition and a special anniversary race for athletes who’ve completed five or more Norseman races.

The total of 1,365 applicants represents 44 nationalities, with just 10 percent of the applicant pool made up of women. Forty-seven percent of the applicants come from outside Norway. Race organisers will use a quota system for gender and nationality when allocating places.

In its ten-year history, Norseman has grown from a challenge tackled by a handful of determined multisport athletes to a competition with a truly international profile and big demand for the limited places on the start line. The point-to-point race takes competitors through some of the most beautiful parts of Norway, starting in a fjord and finishing at the top of Gaustatoppen mountain for a total ascent of 5,000 meters.
