How did you get your start in the sport? What was your first triathlon? My parents are lifelong endurance sports enthusiasts who had me skiing, cycling and swimming from a very young age. Following their lead, I registered for my first triathlon, the local Belwood Triathlon. I was sixteen and from there, I gradually got into the sport.

What sport background do you come from? My first structured training program was with the local recreational swim team from the age of nine to sixteen. I later ran for my high school and university cross-country teams before eventually focusing on triathlon.

How or when did you decide the turn pro? After graduating from university in 2012, I rewarded myself with a year focusing on triathlon while working part-time. In 2013, I surprised myself by winning my half distance debut at the Ontario Long Distance Triathlon Championship in course record time (3:58). I went on to win the MultiSport Canada Elite/Pro Series and take the top amateur spot at Ironman 70.3 Muskoka, ahead of the majority of the pro field. Still unsure of my goals, some friends convinced me to step up to pro racing in 2014 and it turned out to be the right decision.

What is your favourite race and why? Ironman 70.3 Muskoka holds special significance due to its highly challenging course, classic Canadian landscape and history. It was also my first major race and the closest one to my home.

What is your favorite colour? Teal

What do you do to relax on you off time? I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, playing the piano and browsing obscure corners of Reddit.

What is your favorite superhero/heroine? I’ve never been into superheroes… Can I choose a fantasy character like Gandalf?

When you are training what is your favourite song to listen to? It varies from month to month. Over the past year, my top three most played have been “Push” by A-Trak, “Milk & Honey” by Soundpusher, and “How Deep is Your Love” by Calvin Harris and Disciples.
