Popular Canyon bikes recalled for safety reasons and risk of injury
Canyon bikes recalls two of its models due to a faulty cockpit and risk of cracks to the fork

One of the fastest bikes in triathlon has come to a complete stop. Some Canyon Speedmax CF bikes are being recalled in Canada due to a safety hazard with the cockpit assembly system.
Two bikes sold between October 2016 and June 2024 are being recalled. The R073 and R41 models were recalled due to being equipped with the problematic German manufactured V21 Aerostem.
The bikes have been deemed unsafe due to the possibility of the fork steerer tubes cracking or breaking when hit with an impact like riding over a pothole. In the event of a crack or break the entire cockpit assembly system is at risk of detaching, which includes the stem and handlebar.

Risk of falling and injury
If the cockpit becomes detached, a rider is at risk of crashing or falling.
So far there have not been any reported incidents in Canada. Health Canada published a public notice of the recall on its safety alerts website page on Thursday, February 13.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bikes until they’ve been inspected and repaired by a professional bike mechanic,” the website stated. “Consumers can order a repair kit from the company’s website.”

Canyon provides instructions on their site
Canyon posted a message on its website instructing bike owners to have the steerer tube inspected. It also said the inspection and subsequent repairs need to be done at a Canyon service location using Canyon parts by a professional bike mechanic.
“This requires disassembling and removing the stem,” it stated.
“If the steerer tube clamping area is not damaged, a reinforcement of the area will solve the issue and you can use your bike again. If damage is found on the fork steerer tube clamping area, the fork will need to be replaced.
“The new fork will also receive the reinforcement. Canyon will supply a replacement fork at no addition cost if it is required.”

Bike owners can order a repair kit through Canyon
The website also outlined instructions on how to achieve the reinforcement.
To book a repair owners can visit Canyon’s website for more information. It stated repair kits would be sent out starting in mid December and onwards with the goal of having all kits received by end of January. It updated its site February 4, 2025.
The company also promised to cover the cost of inspection and repair by offering a credit of 100 EUR or the equivalent currency.
