Just yesterday, Challenge Roth teased on Instagram the addition of two more Roth winners to its already stacked 2026 start list.

This morning, organizers revealed the first name: Andreas Dreitz, noting that he will be returning to Roth one final time as a professional.

Looking back on his career, the 37-year-old German took part in his first triathlon in 2008 at the age of 19 and began his professional career 13 years ago.

Dreitz has enjoyed tremendous success over that span, recording 27 podium finishes, including 13 victories (three Challenge Family wins, eight Ironman 70.3 victories, one Ironman win, and his memorable Challenge Roth triumph in 2019).

This race has always held special significance for him, and with Roth taking place in his home country and 2026 marking his final season in the sport, the emotion surrounding the occasion is only amplified.

Looking Back on Roth

When it comes to Dreitz’s history with Roth, he recalled developing an interest in the event as he began making his mark in triathlon: “One day I said I want to start here – and then as I got better I dreamt that I might one day win it,” he said.

His first appearance at Roth came in 2018, after winning his debut full-distance race at Ironman Italy Emilia-Romagna in 2017. He immediately made an impact, chasing home compatriot Sebastian Kienle to finish an impressive second in only his second-ever attempt at the full distance.

Returning to Roth 12 months later, Dreitz surged into the lead on the bike against a strong field that included renowned cyclist Cam Wurf. He ran his way into the record books that day with an overall time of 7:59:02, winning by more than three minutes.

“I’ve watched this race as a fan on so many occasions, seeing incredible performances, and it’s a dream come true – especially with so many friends and family here to see it,” he said as the significance of the moment began to sink in.

This will mark Dreitz’s sixth and final appearance at Roth. We wish him all the very best as he joins this special start list.
