Mont-Tremblant to host the 2013 and 2014 Ironman North American Championship

The championship goes Sunday August 18 in 2013.

World Triathlon Corporation and officials from the city of Mont-Tremblant are pleased to announce that IRONMAN® Mont-Tremblant has been officially designated as the IRONMAN North American Championship in 2013 and 2014.

The inaugural IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant, held on August 19, 2012, received rave reviews from the athletes, their families, the community and organizers alike. The race features the scenic countryside of the province of Quebec, and the ski village flair of the world-renowned Tremblant Resort, offering an international-style experience that is unique to the North American continent.

“Mont-Tremblant surpassed expectations this summer and offered a warm welcome to the entire IRONMAN community, providing a superb set-up with activities for athletes and supporters alike, as well as a beautiful yet challenging race course. We are pleased to have it become the IRONMAN North American Championship. It has already proven to be a popular IRONMAN destination, and this should only make it more exciting,” said Steve Meckfessel, Managing Director of Global Race Operations for IRONMAN.

As the IRONMAN North American Championship event for the next two years, Mont-Tremblant will be a P-4000 race featuring a $125,000 USD professional prize purse and 75 age group qualifying slots for the IRONMAN World Championship that takes place each October in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.

“It is a huge honour for us to host the IRONMAN North American Championship for the next two years, as well as a great reward for our community. Our residents worked hard this summer and offered athletes a fine experience. This will further motivate us to do even better, year after year; it is great to be recognized,” says Alain Houde, General Director, Tourism Mont-Tremblant.

While general entry for the race is closed, limited IRONMAN Foundation spots are still available for the 2013 IRONMAN North American Championship at Mont-Tremblant. Visit www.ironmanmonttremblant.com.
