Michael Weiss banned

XTERRA Champion receives a two-year ban.

Austria’s Michael Weiss received a two-year ban (from all competitions) from Austria’s National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The infraction is in regards to an incident from 2005.

Weiss is the reigning XTERRA World Champion, and recently placed eighth at Ironman Arizona. We await word from XTERRA to see if they strip Weiss of the title and award it to South Africa’s Dan Hugo. It may be unlikely since the ban is for that 2005 incident and has nothing to do with his recent drug testing profile.

Weiss responded on twitter:

“It has been a hard day, but the sun will rise tomorrow and I will keep moving forward. Thanks tons to all for the support and encouragement!
